Accompanying Presentation –
What Cameroon's development partners in-country could do, to help mitigate drivers of the country's Anglophone crisis
Dear Reader:
We are pleased to release an accompanying Presentation that illustrates the issues raised in the Policy Paper: What Cameroon's development partners in-country could do, to help mitigate drivers of the country's Anglophone crisis. The presentation provides additional data and suggests priority interventions in the areas of (i) Language Policy and Planning, (ii) Language-in-Education policy, (iii) Bi-juralism and management of Mixed Legal Systems, and (iv) Devolution and Subnational governance.
Notably, it offers further insights into Cameroon’s dual language-in-education sub-systems (two parallel education tracks in English and French). These include statistically demonstrated differences in internal performance outcomes between the two sub-systems, and demographic trends of enrolment between the French and English sub-systems, which show a net gain in student enrolment by the latter, over the past two decades. The presentation underscores the need for improved management of language-in-education policies, in order to stem conflicts arising from the education sector in a multilingual country.
